Our Mission

We cannot protect what we do not understand.

Helford Marine Research is dedicated to providing the best possible environment for scientists and conservationists from around the world to study marine, coastal and estuarine ecosystems.

We are working to establish a bespoke, state-of-the-art Marine Research Station at Port Navas on the Helford River.

In partnership with the Duchy of Cornwall, we plan to bring new life to a disused oyster quay, by creating a fully accessible scientific facility where institutions and individual researchers can combine laboratory and field work.

The research station, sustainably designed in a way that respects the heritage and location of the original building, will provide a rare opportunity to understand, protect and conserve this unique ecosystem for generations to come.

Helford Marine Research Station
  • Seawater and freshwater aquaria
  • Large and small mesocosms
  • Accommodation for researchers
  • Direct access to water using RIBs
  • Fully accessible for wheelchair users

“The earth is at a tipping point and we face a stark choice: either we continue as we
are and irreparably damage our planet or we remember our unique power as human
beings and our continual ability to lead, innovate and problem-solve.
People can achieve great things.”
